Dalton fire panel votes to recommend truck bay exhaust fix
Other Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026
Dalton Fire District Prudential Committee chair to step down over health, panel votes to fix truck bay exhaust. The three-member committee voted unanimously to postpone reorganizing leadership until its next meeting and separately approved a strong recommendation to install an exhaust mitigation system in the fire station's truck bay. Member Dennis and presenter Peter Winnicott outlined a plan to split ambulance and water finances into standalone enterprise funds, estimating $10,000 to $25,000 a year in added administrative cost; Winnicott said the goal is to ensure "transparency on how much it costs for each service." Dennis said district debt runs near 14 percent, "nearly double" the state's recommended 5-to-10 percent range.
The chair separately proposed roughly $5,000 a year in new election funding after residents complained about confusing signage and polling information. No water commissioners attended; Bob Benlund represented the Water Department.
