Dalton Certifies $1.8 Million Sewer Bill, Waives Late Fees
Other Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Dalton certifies a $1.78 million sewer bill as Pittsfield's new wastewater rate hits home. Town Manager Eric Anderson told the Select Board the town's per-household water use is roughly double the state average and that infiltration from aging pipes accounts for about a third of the flow Dalton pays Pittsfield to treat under a new inter-municipal agreement. The board voted unanimously to authorize the fiscal year 2027 sewer commitment of $1,777,728.50 and to waive interest and late fees on sewer bills through July 1, 2027, provided residents keep making at least $50 payments.
Anderson is asking the fall Special Town Meeting for $200,000 from the Sewer Stabilization Fund to study groundwater infiltration and illegal connections such as footing drains and sump pumps. "We're using twice the state average per household in Dalton," Anderson said. "That seems crazy."
